Cherokee Village Camping Trip

This past weekend, my cherished family went to the Cherokee Village Resort in Whitney, Texas.  If you want a nice getaway that is close to Dallas (only 2 hour drive), then you MUST check it out.  There is fishing, canoeing and a pavillion with games like basketball, ping-pong, horseshoes, etc.   We actually had planned our wedding there but, it didn’t work out for various logistic reasons.  However, the folks at Cherokee Village were nice enough to let us use our deposit towards a stay at the cabins.  And I assure you this will not be our last time.  We had so much fun, especially  Gabriel.  Ever since we went on the trip, he has a habit of bringing us his tennis shoes and grunting because he knows that he needs those to go outside.

Day one– Packing the car and ready to go.

We stopped off in Hillsboro Texas at the Capital for a rest stop.  Gabriel enjoyed climbing up the steps of the capital.  He does a lot of climbing these days.. 🙂

We were in room #5, Longing for the Sea.  Our room was decorated with little treasures from the sea.

We let Gabriel explore the territory.

First stop, straight to the water.

Conor showed Gabriel how to skip rocks.  Of course, Gabe just threw them very close to the edge but, he seemed to really enjoy it.

All sorts of interesting rocks here.  This one had some neat carvings.

Then back to the cabin for nap time.

Day Two – We woke up early in the morning and went right back down to the water.

This day we find a rock with a heart in it.

Then, Gabriel had a special visit from a ladybug.

Then, we went back up to the cabin area.  Gabe discovered the peacocks which were very exciting.

Then it was nap time for Gabriel, so I did some exploring on my own.

What I love about Cherokee Village is that it is a wild flower preservation.  So, everywhere you go there are flowers and that brings of course…..butterflies!! I so wish I could have captured how I saw this.  But, this was the best I could get.

And I found another ladybug friend. 🙂

Then, Gabriel woke up and we played in the Pavillion.  There is so much to keep you busy here.  I mean Gabriel really loved everything he discovered.

The Pavillion is nice and homey and perfect for socializing at night.

Here is the camp fire that we roasted marshmallows on at night.  Can you believe I had a real smore for the first time in my life.  I feel like I have now lived.  It was AWESOME!

The end to another perfect day.

Day 3- I wanted to go explore the fields.  And attempt to take some family pictures.

That didn't turn out so well. It's much harder to take pics of yourself then you think with a 13 month old. But, of course the images of Conor and Gabe were great.

This was the best shot I got for our family pic. Trying to get a 13 month old to understand to look at the camera is impossible in this scenario.  So, oh well, I still love it.

So, to appease myself, I did a self portrait with this awesome reindeer.  Maybe I’ll use it for Christmas cards or something, who knows.

I can’t wait to go back.  If you are in Whitney, you should definitely check it out.
